Final
words
Esmeralda’s final result in ARC was 4th of all the catamarans.
The three vessels in front of us were much bigger in size. In final
result after the handicap we were second. We are very proud that
we won Timaijos, Catana 582 an ultra modern catamaran. Our result
in the whole ARC was 50 out of 200.
Reijo Tsutsunen, the
captain. It was nice to cross the Atlantic, even though it was the
second time. This time it was maybe a bit easier since I knew more
of what to expect. The new boat exceeded my expectations, which
is great!
Three great guys turned sailors volunteered for the trip, who all
did a great job. Special thanks for Make who was took charge to
ensure that nobody lost any weight during the journey.
I must be pleased with our result 50th. Our mentality was to have
nice and relaxed journey, no pressures, and we achieved this with
great success. Our navigator helped us to choose a great route and
our average speed was 7.15 knots.
Jari Halmesuo: It
is totally different to sail a catamaran than a traditional sailing
boat, the catamaran is the only way to cross the Atlantic. One can
never overestimate the importance of good weater reports. Special
thanks to Santtu Tsutsunen, who all the way from Finland, gave us
valuable information. This time we managed to avoid all the calms.
Heikki Räisänen:
What a great trip! Many people talk and dream about trips like this
but only few ever actually do it. For me this was my first time
sailing a catamaran. It is truly a great boat, so much so that there
were times when it was so steady that one could forget we were sailing.
It is also important to have a skillfull and calm captain. The atmosphere
for the whole four week trip was great, truly a marvelous experience.
Markku Teräväinen:
Thousands of great memories, not a single bad one, but I still think
the greatest moment was when we crossed the finishing line after
17 days at the sea. It is such a sense of pride and achievement.
Another fond moment was the lengthy battle with the sword fish,
despite the fact that the meal wasn’t so good, you casn’t
been man and nature wrestling it out over a good old game of tug-of’war.
During the times when the crew was tired, Jallu’s and Heikki’s
stories were always cheerfull.
